Privacy Policy
Learning Labs: Write · Effective 23 October 2026
The short version
- We collect nothing. The app has no account, no sign-in, and no server of ours.
- Everything a child writes, every name and every bit of progress stays on the iPad.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party code that collects data.
- The app asks for no permissions: no camera, microphone, location, contacts or photos.
- Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your name, email or payment details.
- Anything for grown-ups, including subscribing, sits behind a grown-up question.
Who we are
Learning Labs: Write (“the app”) is an iPad app that helps children learn to write letters, cursive and numbers. It is made by Garson Tech (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app does with information, and applies to the app on every device it is installed on.
What the app keeps on the iPad
To work, the app keeps the following on the iPad it is installed on, and nowhere else:
- Each child’s first name or nickname, as typed in, the pet they chose and their writing hand.
- The child’s handwriting: the strokes they trace and write, and how each attempt was scored.
- Progress: lessons finished, stars, stickers, coins earned and items bought in the in-app pet shop (which uses pretend coins earned by writing, never money).
- Settings a grown-up chooses for each child, such as voice on or off and a daily writing limit, and how long the child has written today.
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else. We cannot see it, and we have no copy of it.
What can leave the iPad
The app itself sends nothing anywhere. Information leaves the iPad only in these cases, all under a grown-up’s or Apple’s control:
Subscriptions, through Apple
Subscribing, restoring a purchase or managing a subscription happens through Apple’s App Store, using the grown-up’s Apple Account. Apple handles the payment and tells the app only whether a subscription is active. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details. Apple’s handling of this is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Practice sheets a grown-up prints or shares
A grown-up can make a printable practice sheet. It is made on the iPad and holds only letters to trace, a blank “Name” line and page numbers — no child’s name, no scores. It goes only where the grown-up chooses to print or send it.
The iPad’s own backups
If the iPad is backed up to iCloud or to a computer, the app’s data is included in that backup, like any other app’s. Those backups are controlled by the iPad’s owner and by Apple, not by us.
Children’s privacy
The app is made for children and is designed to collect no personal information from them. In particular:
- We do not collect, use or disclose personal information from children, as described in the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU and UK GDPR, and similar laws.
- There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to.
- There are no ads of any kind, no analytics, no tracking across apps or websites, and no third-party software development kits that collect data.
- There are no links, purchases or settings a child can reach on their own. Subscribing, the subscription page and its links, and the grown-ups’ area are behind a grown-up question.
- Children are never shown a price in money. The pet shop uses only pretend coins earned by writing.
Purchases and subscriptions
The app is free to use, with a paid subscription that opens more lessons, more of the pet shop and practice sheets. Prices are shown by the App Store in the grown-up’s own currency. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. A grown-up can cancel or change a subscription at any time in the iPad’s Settings, under their Apple Account’s Subscriptions, or from the app’s subscription page. If a subscription ends, nothing a child made or earned is deleted.
Keeping and deleting information
Information stays on the iPad until it is deleted there:
- In the grown-ups’ area, Remove sets a child aside so they can be restored later, and Remove for good deletes that child and all their writing and progress from the iPad.
- Deleting the app deletes everything it kept on the iPad.
- Copies inside iCloud or computer backups are kept or deleted according to the iPad owner’s backup settings.
Security
Because the information never leaves the iPad, it is protected by the iPad itself: its passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and Apple’s on-device encryption. We recommend keeping a passcode on any iPad children use.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR, COPPA and the California Consumer Privacy Act give you rights to see, correct or delete personal information a company holds about you or your child. We hold none: there is nothing about you or your child on our side to send, correct or delete. Everything the app keeps is on your iPad, where you can see it in the grown-ups’ area and delete it as described above. We do not sell or share personal information. If you have a question about these rights, contact us below.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this policy and its effective date before the change reaches the app. If a change would mean collecting any information from children, we will ask for a parent’s consent first, as the law requires.
